What is Graph Paper?
Graph paper is a type of paper that is meant for writing and drawing on. The paper contains vertical and horizontal lines which intersect to form boxes.
What is Graph Paper Used For?
Graph paper is useful when you want to draw objects in a scale, instead of measuring each line using a ruler while drawing the object, you can use the graph paper as your guide. Graph paper is available in many measurements, for instance, each box in the graph paper may measure either centimeters or inches.
Cartesian system uses grids; hence, graph paper is ideal for this type of system. Graph paper is ideal for taking notes when it comes to mathematics.
Other Uses of Graph Paper
- Graph paper can also serve as a two dimensional ruler. You do not have to put the ruler on the object, but rather the object can be placed on the paper.
- Graph paper can also be used in solving multi-digit math questions. It might be hard to solve math when multiple numbers are present in the same small area and it becomes hard to figure out which numbers need to be added, subtracted, divided or whatever the case is. Graph paper will assist in aligning the numbers properly.
- Graph paper can also be used as a guide in writing. This can be very helpful for children who are still learning how to write. For instance, one can use a three block row. Capital letters should occupy the first two blocks while lower-case letters should occupy only one block. The letters which fall below the line such as lowercase p, g, and y should take up two blocks.
- It can be used for filling up blocks either in black or colors to form graph art.
- It can be used for creating crossword puzzles.
- It can be used for making mazes.
- It can be used for playing the dot game by using dots, which becomes possible when the grid lines are extremely thin, which in turn allows you to darken them using a pen/pencil; in addition, it is helpful when the grids are big.
